Standard EPE foam backing rod is an ideal non-absorbent compressive backup material designed as a filler to be inserted into joints. This helps to control the sealant depth and creates a backstop which allows proper sealant tooling. It can also be used as a temporary joint seal. Commonly used in glazing, window and door applications, curtain wall joints, partitions, precast concrete tilt slabs, pavement joints and copings.
It is compatible with butyl¸ acrylic, polyurethane, silicone and most other cold sealants.
It is highly flexible and compressible for easy installation.
Installation
Joint or opening must be kept clean, dry and free of obstructions. Select proper rod diameter and cut to length or use directly from spool. With a blunt instrument or roller, uniformly install rod at the level recommended by the sealant manufacturer. Generally the depth of the joint after the PE Rod is installed is one half the widths. Very large and very small joints vary in terms of this depth to width ratio.
